Kicks, Movie Inspired

Rise of the Planet of the Apes Customs

When I saw the trailer for this film I became giddy like a school girl. I had seen the original as a kid but was obviously too young to fully appreciate the premise (I just thought talking apes were cool). Anyway, I’m much older now and I have since rewatched the popular 1968 version, liked the Marky Mark revamp, and have concrete plans to see the other stack of sequels even though they didn’t manage to match the success of Charlton Heston’s ape-kissing, sand-pounding sci-fi cult classic.

"You Maniacs!"

Rise of the Planet of the Apes stars James Franco, Frieda Pinto and Andy Serkis as the leading chimp and a few supporting apes with the help of amazing motion capture effects. The film is a prequel to the 1968 classic and [spoiler alert…just kidding] tells the story of the Ape Revolution that will lead to the dethroning of humans as the dominant species some 2000 years from now, if dogs and cats can’t settle their differences before then that is.

Anyway, my excitement to see Serkis in another Gollum-esque performance and for apes just “going ham” (google it) in LA made me want to customize a pair of kicks for the occasion. All white Nike Air Force One Mids were the the base, the plans deviated from the sketch a lot but I am still pleased with them. What do you think?
